This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Coming from an area where my students' families have NO money, it's nice for them to bring home portfolios that we create each year that showcases their artwork that they have created. These mini portfolios are something that they can hold onto for years and be proud of.

I have 780 students from grades K-5.

These students come from a very poor area in NY. They are not given the opportunities that other students are given. As teachers, we try to do our best for them, but money only goes so far. My students are very talented and because of our area their talents go unnoticed.

My Project

I am requesting 1 color printer/scanner and 6 ink cartridges. Each year, I create a mini portfolio book for each student, scanning their artwork as they complete assignments. These books are given to them at the end of the year as a little gift they can take home and cherish. And they do cherish them, since they don't have much at home at all. Writing is included in every art project I do, sort of a reflection on their pieces. These writing entries are included in their books. It's amazing to watch their growth in writing throughout the year, and I believe this activities help them to improve in all areas.

When you come from nothing, the littlest things mean the world to you.

Seeing the joy in my students eyes at the end of the year when I present them with their portfolios is the most rewarding gift as I teacher I can receive. Help me make my students feel worthy and feel accomplished.
