Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 8th, 10th and 11th grade English in California. I teach in a high need community at a Title 1 school, in which 100% of our students get free lunches.
My classroom does not have a printer, and my school has no funds to provide one. This may not seem like a big problem, but it is actually quite the obstacle, for a number of reasons. For one thing, many students used to come to me asking to print work for their classes. They can't afford their own printers and often rely on teachers to allow them to print their work. I am now turning students away and I know my students are suffering for lack of a printer, with either late work or work not turned in at all. Secondly, I print students' grade reports monthly to keep them updated on how they are doing in class. Without a printer, I am unable to do this and fear the students getting behind in their assignments and their grades dropping.
All I need is one printer and some ink cartridges, and this whole dilemma is solved. Students will absolutely benefit from having a printer in class. They can print their essays, pictures, and information for projects. I can print their grade reports, which will directly affect their grades, in a positive way.
Your help will make it possible to have a simple and basic necessity for any classroom: a printer. I cannot tell you how important it is for students to be able to see missing assignments and grade progress on a regular basis. The only way for me to provide this on a regular basis to all students would be through the use of a classroom printer. Thank you for your assistance, I am very thankful to you for your help.
