My Students

Our school is a large, diverse school composed of students in grades 6-8. My students consist of over 100 students in 5 different classes. They are a kind, caring, and intelligent group of 8th graders who come from a variety of different backgrounds and ethnicities. They are hard working, fun, and creative!

My students love to read new and exciting novels from all genres; however, many of them don't have access to books outside of school.

As their teacher, I want to help provide each student with the opportunity to read engaging books at their appropriate level both in class and at home.

My Project

This class set of books will not only be engaging for all students, but will be very helpful for teaching one of our most challenging units in 8th grade - our argument unit! This will be enough books for each student to have a copy, read, and even check out a copy to complete reading and assignments at home, especially when they are absent.

With this set of books, not only can students stay engaged and focused while reading as a class, but they will also be able to explore topics and evidence independently that are most relevant to them.

This book will allow our students to have engaging discussions on controversial subjects, where students can choose a claim and support it with valid reasons and evidence in order to more deeply understand our argument unit in Language Arts.
