My Students

Whew! I just finished my 25th year of teaching. I come from a family of teachers. My mom, dad, and three of my five children are teachers, not to mention my two daughters-in-law! I am an ATPE teacher from East Texas. Teaching is a very rewarding job, one of the best in the world. I feel blessed to have this opportunity to serve as a teacher.

This year I am looping from 2nd to 3rd with my class.

This includes two special needs students. My students come from a socio economically disadvantaged district. Many of my students receive free breakfast and lunch - it is a luxury. Some, even receive food “backpacks” for the weekends. We also have a growing Hispanic population. But we are proud to say, through hard work and lots of care, our district has had a 100% graduation rate.

My students feel loved. Tolerance and acceptance is something that is fostered everyday. We live in a small rural community and continue to support former students through school activities such as sports, band and other district activities.

My Project

Everyday at 9:30 we have a snack in our classroom. Out of 20 students maybe 5 bring a snack and the rest of the students always ask for some. It is so sad to see the faces of those who are hungry. Most of the time, I buy as many snacks as I can, but it is impossible to always do this. Healthy snacks will be the fuel my students need to make it through the day studying. If they are hungry, they unable to focus.

These healthy snacks will stop their rumbling stomachs and open their inquiring minds.

Also our prize box is looking very sparce. The new novelty toys will help keep us on task and ready to learn! It is amazing what my students will do to earn a small tub of slime!
