We Need A Library To Keep Growing As Confident Readers
My students need a leveled library, that consists of 18 sets of books, so they will have access to books that will help them continue to grow and develop confidence as enthusiastic readers.
Reading is a vitally important skill. The students in my 3rd grade classroom are enthusiastic, eager readers who need more books. We need a leveled library so that they have access to books that are meant to help them develop their skills as readers, as well as a deep love for reading in the process
Our school is preparing young people to engage across difference throughout their lives.
At our school, we engage in continuous conversations about race, the environment, history, and culture. Our students learn what it means to be part of a larger community as they develop communication, critical thinking, and peacemaking skills.
As you can see in the photograph, our students are learning to love themselves, as well as each other, their communities, and all the interconnected parts of our world, through our unique curriculum and school structure.
My Project
With this new library, my students will be able to find books that are "just right" for their particular reading stage. This will help ensure that they are growing as readers and enjoying what they are reading because the books they choose won't be too easy or too challenging.
There is an enormous gap in literacy rates among different groups in the U.S.
While this problem will not be solved overnight, I have witnessed amazing transformations occur within classrooms as young readers emerge and delight in their newfound power. Please help our school provide the resources for 22 students to become lifelong lovers of reading.
