This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We need a kidney! A Kidney table, that is!
I teach Kindergarten in a high poverty area. Many of my students have never experienced any part of Reading or Math before they walk through my door. They absorb new ideas like little sponges, so this first year of school is absolutely vital to their future success as students.
Small group time is extremely valuable in a Kindergarten classroom. With large, rectangular tables, however, it is difficult to be "right there" for each student in a group. Sometimes they just need you to gently point to where they should be reading or to direct them in a manipulative activity. This is hard to do when they are not an arm's reach away!
We need a kidney table for our small group activities. A kidney table would enable me to see exactly what each student is doing, whether we are reading, writing, or working on Math. This simple addition to the classroom would provide an environment where the students feel more at ease and the teacher is more accessible to them during their critical learning time.
Your help will directly impact the way my students learn and give them a higher quality of one-on-one attention from the teacher. A small contribution can have an amazing effect on a classroom!
