My Students
First grade is a very fun place to be! My students are creative, curious, silly, thoughtful, hardworking learners. We like learn through hands-on, interactive and engaging projects that challenge us to think outside the box, while also trying to integrate technology into our everyday routine to prepare to be 21st Century learners.
Not everyone learns the same and being able to provided different materials and tasks that will reach every students learning style will allow them to reach their full potential.
My Project
A kidney-shaped table and stools would be very beneficial for the students in my classroom. Currently while working with students for guided reading or working in small groups on math and writing, we meet together at a small rectangular table. I sit on one side of the table so that I can see and hear students as they work. At times while working with students, I find that my back is sometimes turned to students sitting at one end of the table and I am constantly switching back and forth between students trying to reach everyone. The available space for all of our materials is limited as well. Many of our materials end up being stored on the floor when we are not using them.
A kidney-shaped table would help with this dilemma.
I imagine students will be more comfortable working in a space where there is more room for them to manage their literacy materials. The benefit of this type of table is that the teacher is within an arm's reach of each student. This would mean all student would be getting all the attention that they need. Children are more focused when they are in close proximity to the teacher, and when children are focused, they are able to make greater strides in gaining the skills that they need to become successful readers, writers and mathematicians.
