My Project
My students are 20 energetic, chatty, curious, creative, hard working diverse learners. Some students are homeless along with food insecurities, on IEP, and have survived traumatic experiences. In spite of challenges they enjoy science, math, and English language arts. Quarterly they take a benchmark assessments in math, science, reading, and writing.
Students are overjoyed to be in a regular brick and mortar classroom with fun, challenging, and engaging activities for the first time due to Covid restrictions being lifted for the 22-23 School Year.
Students just return to a normal classroom setting in August 2022. Ferguson, MO is our neighboring city, site of the 2014 uprising. Some students have experienced Covid-19 trauma and flooding trauma in July 2022. There is not a book store in the attendance area.
The scholars love to share, hold discussions, solve problems, and eager to learn new things. They enjoy daily reading on EPIC Reading and SORA. They enjoy learning about STEAM careers, historical events, places, and people.
It takes a village to educate students today! Do you remember the first time you received recognition for showing growth on quarterly benchmark testing? Maybe you received an incentive/reward for meeting weekly or monthly goals on Lang and Lit, Imagine Math, or Class Dojo Behavior percentages? Meeting goals in our Flamingo Theme Room will earn us individual recognitions and Class Glow, Game and Gum Day.
Cookies, pop its, candy, and Star Student items are given to students when their goals are attained. Uno and Connect Four Games and glow sticks items will be used on Gaming and Glow Day. Dry erase boards and markers are used to complete assignments, show their thinking during benchmark testing, and playing games in class during indoor recess.
Students receive incentives as a reward for persevering and trying.
