This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It may be 2013, but you certainly couldn't tell from my classroom. We don't even have a classroom computer!

Almost all of my students live in poverty; their loving families simply cannot afford a home computer.

It is especially important that they have access to technology at school. It's not just that I want them to experience the wealth of information and learning activities available online, I also want them to feel capable and confident using computers. This skill is critical for college and career-ready learners! The lack of a computer in the classroom is also a challenge for me. My district uses online assessment and report card systems; without access to a classroom computer, providing targeted instruction to each student requires lugging piles of student work home to analyze. Printing report cards three times a year is a serious expense, since every set requires its own ink cartridge. I would rather spend that money on my classroom.

My Project

I am requesting 1 computer, 1 printer, and 3 ink jet cartridges. A classroom computer will enable my students to use technology regularly. I will also be able to better differentiate learning for all my students because I have at hand the data needed to drive instruction. The printer and ink cartridges will also make it easier to communicate with parents; I can compose a note home on the fly or share assessment results without printing them out at home in advance.

Technological literacy is so important to my students' future that it comprises several Common Core standards.
