Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. I see about a thousand students every week, from Kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.
Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch and some of them even go home without food on the weekends.
My Project
Help us step into the 21st century with a new camcorder with an external microphone and memory card for our school. This camera will really be an improvement over the way we currently give our announcements over the PA system. We can't wait to see how much better the camera will be when we start airing our announcements online!
With a camcorder like this, it will enable us to conduct interviews and to do 'on the scene' reporting for our news at our school.
As the full time Art teacher I have the pleasure of seeing my students from kindergarten all the way to fifth grade. Having 1,084 students can make lots of moments to record sporting events, dramas, musical performances, etc. for broadcast purposes.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
