My Project

In a self-contained special education classroom (extensions), it can be chaotic! You will walk in to my classroom and see some students that have been diagnosed with autism, some with Down Syndrome, some with TBI, and the list continues! With grades K-5, we hardly ever look like a "class", because we are more like a family! As a teacher, I focus on equity- every student getting what he or she needs. This can be extremely hard when we have minimal staff and 10 students that all have completely different skills, abilities, and ages.

It is my job to individualize every single lesson, direction, and task to make sure that each child has an opportunity to receive, learn, respond, and express themselves.

Unfortunately- this gets expensive! Most free school supplies include pencil, paper, glue, crayons, scissors. GREAT and typical supplies- but what if your kids can't write? Can't hold a crayon? Can't hold scissors? Can't speak? We need unique supplies because we are a unique classroom. Please help us.
