This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 26 AMAZING first graders who truly see themselves as authors, linguists, mathematicians, engineers, inventors, artists... They willingly trot into our classroom smiling from ear to ear ready to greet me with the kindest sweetest good mornings, "Good morning Mrs. Wonderful Garibay!" They are precious! They live to the fullest extent seeking more and more knowledge each day. They are like little sponges absorbing all the academic information that is provided to them!
They are inquisitive, innovative thinkers who go WILD for hands-on learning and technology!
For as small as they are, they have big dreams. They are thirsty to engage in creative projects but sadly, many times I am not able to provide these 21st century activities because of lack of resources.
My little scholars are challenged with economic hardships, yet it DOES NOT deter their hopes and dreams for a brighter future. Once they enter into our classroom full of life, color and vibrancy, they can cast away fears of living amidst one of the highest crime ridden neighborhoods in the heart of South Los Angeles. Our classroom is a safe haven where students feel emotionally safe and respected.
My Project
Our Makerspace in our classroom is being built around donations from Donorschoose funding opportunities. Thank you!! To continue the Maker Mindset in our classroom, I have just discovered a new tool that will allow my students' to create a lot easier and quicker. With the Makedo Scru, Scru-Driver, and the Mini-Tool set, my littles can begin the creation process with a few quick turns of the Scru, they'll begin to see their caardboard form!
"Through a process of experimentation, adaption and invention, with Makedo, ordinary cardboard becomes that imagined thing; from 'mind's eye' to ' I made it".
WOW! Can't wait to start! As always, my goal is to integrate a Maker Mindset into all forms of our curriculum. My students will be reintroduced to the story, The Three Little Pigs, but with an engineering focus in mind. They will work collaboratively to build the strongest innovated house using the Makedo Scru set. They will safely and with guidance use the cardboard cutter to cut their cardboard and begin the building. No more tape and glue all over the room! YAY!
Please help me continue to bring lessons to life for my students!! Thank you!
