This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project will help my students more than you’d ever imagine! A key to my classroom and student success is independent reading! I want kids to pick up a book that they LOVE, that they are INTERESTED in, and then let the magic happen! When kids read choice books, on their independent level, they grow like a shooting star!

Research shows that independent reading builds a love for reading, improves fluency, and ultimately, student comprehension.

This is what we want for our students and especially in Mr. Cush’s class!

My students are so special to me because I have been teaching for ten years, and this is the FIRST time I’m ever moving up with my previous class. I know that they love reading and it is my mission to get them some new books! Unfortunately, our books have either fallen apart, gotten lost, or have been read already! They need new books to experience that same love of reading this year in 4th grade! They will be so excited and grateful for this project if it is funded!

I predict that this project will improve my students reading levels by at-least 1-2 years. From reading books independently and working on reading classwork, students have grown 2-3 reading levels! These books will ensure that they grow as readers and continue to love reading
