Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you have my favorite book? My students love to read. It doesn't matter what genre of books, they really enjoy choosing a book, immersing themselves in it, talking about the story with each other and with me. It is incredible to see.

Our school is a title 1 school in Texas.

All of my students are English language learners; therefore, are actively learning in two languages. They like being able to use the classroom library because they can take the books home and just bring them back when they are finished with them. I also go through my books every year and pull out the ones that show wear and tear. I send them home with the students as a special present for birthdays and holidays. This way, they can own books they can keep at home. Having books available at home helps them practice so they can become better readers and makes them proud to have their own books at home.

My Project

The books I have added on the list are books that my students are asking for. They are favorite series such as The Boxcar Children, Geronimo Stilton, and Goosebumps. They are so frightened when they read scary books, but they keep reading them anyway. They are favorite authors such as Patricia Polacco, who leads us to great discussions with her wonderful storytelling.

These books will help my students become great readers.

The first week of school we talked about how to become better readers and my students know they need to read if they are to become better at it. These books will keep my students motivated to read. They will know that there are other people who feel this is important too and care enough to donate to our classroom.
