We Love To Read

My students need a head phone jack box and a soft rug for our listening center so we can listen to books on CD!

My Students

My students love to be read to! They listen to stories being read in large and small groups, but sometimes they like to go off to a quiet corner, alone or with a friend, to read a book.

My students come from a high poverty area.

Many are homeless, live with relatives, or in public housing. It is challenging for many of our families to meet the needs of their children at home. Many families do not have easy access to books, or are too tired or busy at the end of the night to read to their children. Many of my students are second language learners. All of my students need many and varied experiences with literacy for them to increase their language skills. A new listening center will help them tremendously!

My Project

Technology is exciting to young children! Imagine how excited they would be to use headphones and a CD player to read a book! I have put together most of the materials I need to create an inviting listening center. All I need now, is a headphone jack box to connect the CD player to the headphones, and a comfortable rug to sit on. The students will be able to choose a story on their own, and listen to the story being read as they look at the pictures in the book!

This project will offer my students a quiet place to learn.

The listening center will give students even more access to reading, increase their vocabulary, and improve comprehension. This is important to all of my students, but especially to those that are learning English.
