My Students

"Reading is dreaming with open eyes." -Yoyo My dream is to give my exceptional students a chance to experience the wonders of reading by providing them with a rich, diverse classroom library that meets their needs as well as pushes and challenges them.

My soon-to-be 6th grade class is filled with dynamic, curious, and insightful boys and girls.

Last year, when I taught 5th grade, I had the pleasure of teaching many of the students now entering 6th grade. My students come to school every day from all over the city and all different walks of life. What unites them is their desire to learn and find success in the classroom. I am so fortunate that I have students who love to read and devour the books that are given to them. It is my job to to create a learning environment that helps them grow. My students need 9 mini crates and a collection of books for a middle school classroom library to help them learn and grow as readers.

My Project

My goal is to give all my students a new experience as their Reading/Language Arts teacher, one that provides them with a vast library of genres and authors, so that every child is able to find books at his or her own level that excite them. Since I have taught 5th grade for the past 8 years and have had many of these students, I want to be able to provide them with a new classroom environment, rich in resources that are age and developmentally appropriate. My students will be able to use these books daily for their independent reading time in class as well as on their own at home. These books will serve as springboards for book talks and projects that showcase each student's connection to the books they read.

This new middle school library will allow my students the chance to choose high-interest, relevant novels.

These books will push them to be thoughtful, critically thinking students, who understand a world outside themselves. I truly believe that a classroom filled with literature will help every student find success across the curriculum and in life.
