Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a barrier-free Title I funded school, home to over 1500 students, with over seventy languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.

It is imperative that our greatest asset, our children, are given the tools that they need to succeed, and being able to read will ensure that they are successful in all their endeavors.

More than 90% of my students are struggling readers and writers. This has impacted every subject area and has caused stress and anxiety in my beloved students. It has really had an effect on their mental health as their deficiencies have impacted all academic areas. The Wasp and Hornet books will be used by the children to read words and phrases that will help them with what they need to succeed. This will be done in small groups. Also, the phonics book will be used by the children to enable them to have multiple strategies to learn how to become better readers and it will help them to remediate any deficiencies. It will also allow them to find the patterns in words through the discovery method which which will help them with their reading.
