Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher in a very low income neighborhood in Florida. When we are not on a budget freeze, my school supplies the consumables such as crayons, pencils, and paper. What we are really missing are manipulative materials. Manipulatives are essential to children's learning across all academic and physical areas. Fine motor skills are strengthened through fun linking, pushing, and snapping activities. Math concepts become concrete using hand on objects for counting, number sense, 1:1 correspondence, addition, and subtraction. Children learn new vocabulary such as "more", "less", "equal", etc. Language skills are reinforced through discussion of math concepts made clear by hands on activities. Children learn through play, and manipulatives are a fun and enjoyable way to practice concepts and skills. At the same time, students are using their imaginations to create structures and imaginary scenarios. Your donation would make all the difference in strengthening our math curriculum, as well as help develop fine motor skills, which are essential to handwriting.
