Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a lively and vibrant group of sixth graders with Autism Spectrum Disorder at a charter school specialized for children with ASD. My students come from diverse backgrounds but each is significantly impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder.
My scholars each come to school with complex, individual needs; many of my students are nonverbal and have behavioral challenges.
No matter their need level, my students are filled with excitement for learning and love coming to school. In order to best access the curriculum, my students need high-impact, innovative materials that engage all of their senses. They are in need of a supportive, responsive environment well-equipped with resources to expand their opportunities for success.
My Project
These materials will help all of my students feel more connected in the classroom. It will better engage them in their learning and feel included. We need timers to better transition throughout the day, it gives us a visual to let us know when activities are done. We benefit from preferential seating, by simply giving us an option. It gives us a say! Our hands are always busy, so things like theraputty really helps us calm down and engage in appropriate activities. Some of us are struggling with our handwriting, so that writing activity center will help us tremendously. We will benefit greatly from these items, and the little ones will be forever grateful!
