My Students

I work in a bilingual, head start program in a section of Philadelphia. All my children come from low income families with limited resources to further their education. My students are very special to me. They come to school every day with a smile on their face and ready to give hugs to the teachers in the room. They have a love for learning and enjoy hands-on materials to help them accomplish specific concepts in all content areas. They are growing each day and with this continuous growth, it is my responsibility to challenge them throughout the school year. With our limited budget, this can at times be very difficult. With your help and support, I can help shape our future leaders!

My Project

Our curriculum was designed to help Spanish speaking students continue to learn their native language while learning the English language. Throughout the week, teachers focus on targeted skills for students to learn in Spanish. These skills range from colors, shapes, letters, sounds, basic greetings and expanded vocabulary. We do the best we can with the material we have created using illustrations and vocabulary for students. However, children learn best through play. The materials in this project will be placed throughout the room for students to use freely as they desire. The materials will be used in conjunction to Pennsylvania early learning standards and creative curriculum standards.
