My Students

Every day students look through my classroom library looking for engaging chapter books to dive into. We are in need of sets of chapter books in order to start book club in first grade!

My students are the best...hands down!

They come to school eager to learn with many stories to tell in first grade. Our school has about 49% of the student body receiving free or reduced- price lunch. We are also an inclusion model school, meaning our special education students and our bilingual students are mainstreamed into our classrooms. We are a public school in Washington State.

My Project

During our independent reading time, students will read the requested sets of Flat Stanley chapter books that are at their just-right level. Giving students access to engaging leveled books allows them to stay focused on their reading in meaningful ways. With the implementation of the Common Core Standards, it is imperative that students have access to leveled texts throughout the school year to help bump up their reading levels and interest in books. Student engagement during independent reading time is always a struggle, especially for emergent readers with little experience with literature. With these chapter books, students will have the proper texts that will not only be at their just-right level, but will also keep them engaged. Students are eager in first grade to get their hands on chapter books and this will provide students the opportunity to read chapter books where they can help each other on this wonderful journey.

They can learn from each other by joining book clubs. With these materials, students will have the proper books that will not only be at their just-right level, but will also keep them engaged.
