Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our class is a Special Education Preschool Program. Our goal is to develop self-esteem and provide a learning environment designed to stimulate physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth in the child. Our students are very eager to learn and need to be more manipulatives to engage and interact with.

Our special education class serves students with Autism, Multiple Disabilities Orthopedic, Cerebral Palsy, and Language and Speech Impairments.

Many of my students are English Language Learners. Our school is in an area of extreme poverty in Los Angeles. All of the students in this class qualify for the free-lunch program. This is a Title One school.

My Project

Our preschoolers love to observe and explore insects. They love to search the trees and the grass for little crawly creatures. I can't blame them because I love science too. In the new school year, we have a new study to look forward to. The Insect Study yay. At this time, I am so excited to introduce the study to our students. I am already planning events, activities and art projects. I need some tools that will make our students go buggy for insects. At this time, I only have pictures to use from the internet; however, that could never compare to concrete experiences and I plan to give my students as many as I can.

The materials requested would be beneficial by providing hands-on experiences, immersing students in content, and promoting inquiry.

The Real Bugs Discovery Kit will help students to look closely at particular insects and hold them in our hand. They can count, sort, and play with a lot of insects with the Magnetic Size Sorting and Scoop a Bug Sorting Kit. The Catch and Release Bug Vacuum will allow our students to examine, manipulate, and catch bugs in an age-appropriate manner. These tools will immerse them into the content which will help our students make more meaningful connections.
