This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." by Dr. Seuss. This quote sums up the goal I have for my students. I have 26 amazing first graders who live in a low-income, high poverty area where they face many challenges in their daily lives, but they love school!

My goal is to instill in each child a love of learning and the belief that they can do anything!

They come to school each day excited and ready to learn. My desire is to provide them a safe and loving environment where they can thrive.

My Project

My students enjoy reading big books. Big books allow my students to see the text while listening to reading. They are so engaged while having a big book read to them and get excited about having the opportunity to read them to each other during partner reading.

Having a big book stand in our classroom will give us a place to store our big books and make them more accessible for independent use.

We would then be able use this as a literacy center for students to practice reading the books independently or with a friend. Having a big book center will give my children the opportunity to more readily use our big books which they love!
