We Love Art, But We Need Monet

Help me give my students supplies for art projects throughout the school year.

My Students

My students come from high poverty, low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them live in low-income apartments. One hundred percent of them qualify for government assistance and the federal free lunch program. Many of them are ELL learners and speak English as a second language. However, these barriers do not discourage their love for learning!

These students come to school every day excited and ready to improve their reading and writing.

Their parents are very concerned about their children's education to provide them a better life. Although they are disadvantaged in so many ways, you would never know it by their positive attitudes and eagerness to learn.

My Project

Who doesn't love to sling some paint? Use markers to make a beautiful picture? Use holiday stickers to make a beautiful card? Everybody loves art in one form or another. But along with doing art, there are standards that we teach, even in elementary school.

Art therapy is a great way to help children destress.

I come from a state that ranks number ONE in students affected by trauma. I see their little bodies unwind and relax as they are putting their feelings on paper and canvas.

Unfortunately, there is no "Monet" for art supplies. Art supplies are usually purchased by the teacher and it adds up FAST. Students will use these requested watercolors and tempera paint to create pictures and art that meets curriculum art standards. Markers, construction paper and stickers will be used to make cards and other holiday crafts.

I love art. I love being creative. But my Monet is short and Picasso you, we can make this happen. Thanks for your interest in my project!
