We Live For Science!

My students need age appropriate and up to date Science Reading materials(Scholastic News) in the classroom. Currently they use Discovery Education on the computer.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Smith's classroom raised $224

My Students

My class is a Specialized Classroom for students with a variety of disabilities. My school district is located in an urban area with high poverty rates. A majority of my students speak another language as well as having special needs.

This is the first year my students will be integrated with Grade 1 during Science in the Computer Lab.

The students are participating in lessons designed by myself and Grade 1 teachers that consist of watching videos, reading passages, experiments and written components. The students do not have an age appropriate Science Magazine/Book that caters to the specific age and needs of my students.

My Project

The students in my room will be paired with a peer from Grade 1. After introduction of the Science lesson in the computer lab we will teach the topic in the classroom. My goal is to pair my student with a first grade student and use the Scholastic News Science Spin Magazine to read the articles. This will help in a variety of ways for my students: Social skills working with peers, reading fluency, comprehension and introduction to Science.

The subscription to Scholastic News Science Spin will help my students with their understanding of science while supporting them in acquisition of other skills such as reading, reading comprehension and social skills.
