My Students

My students are active learners, both inside the classroom and out.
They come from various diverse cultures and need to interact with each other to build social, emotional, and physical wellness. My school is in a low income area of Florida. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
I believe there's something special about my school, the students who attend it, and the staff that make it an unbelievable environment to learn and work in. Many of the students are not exposed to free play as they spend the majority of their time outside school watching television or playing video games. Having choices for free play will help them develop skills they will need for the rest of their lives.
My Project
I would love to be able to take my students out and watch them build teams to play football, jump rope, shoot basketballs, have a hula hoop competition, and more. They are only limited by their imaginations. Imagination! It's something kids aren't encouraged to use anymore. They're treated as if they are adults, having so much pressure placed on them to pass tests and assessments. Help our kids be what they are, kids.
These recess kits will make a huge difference in the daily lives of my students.
Research shows that students learn more quickly and better when they are given breaks. Children learn to make decisions, resolve conflict, respect rules, be self-disciplined, control aggression, solve problems and develop leadership skills during recess.
