This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am blessed to teach an incredible group of kids each year! These kids continually amaze me, year to year ,despite the learning challenges they face daily. They are smart, caring, and hardworking! When I tell you they are incredible, that is an understatement! The majority of my sweet students struggle to learn, but refuse to give up! Our school is located in a low income area, where all of the students qualify for free meals. My students often spend anywhere from 9-12 hours a day at school, so it is important to me that my classroom looks and feels like home. My classroom is a family, and my students are bonded. They know that in our class, they will learn even though it may look less traditional than most would imagine. I consider my students family, and we work diligently together to maintain this feeling in my classroom.
My Project
First off, i’m blessed with an incredible bunch of diverse learners each year! They work hard and always try tp persevere no matter how difficult the task given. In order to help them learn best, they often need some scaffolds and manipulatives to help them access the Common Core curriculum. Approximately half of my students are differently abled and benefit from flexible seating to help them best focus. Some like to stand, others prefer a yoga ball, some like to work on our rug while others need the texture of the wobble cushion to help them maintain their focus. I’m grateful that past Donors Choose projects have helped me gather a variety of seating and math manipulatives, but i’d really love to have enough seating and materials for every student. Can you help my dream become a reality?
