My Students
There is no sweeter sound than hearing your students say, "This is fun!" Fourth grade is an especially difficult year with subject matter. This school year I will work with fourth grade students and will be teaching all subjects.
I work in a rural school Title I school that serves students in grades 3-5.
Title I means that many of our students come from low income families. Our school and our community are very supportive of the education of our youth. It is not only our goal to make sure that students understand the subject matter, but to prepare them for a lifetime of learning and growing. We are "Anchored in Excellence."
My Project
Our school has a fantastic P.E. coach that teaches our students about different sports and engages them no matter the activity.
For some of our students, the only physical activity they will get during the day is here at school.
This project is even more important to me after Hurricane Irma. Our county was out of school for over a week following the hurricane. Our families live in rural areas and the flooding, power outages, and damage to the area kept the majority of our students inside even after the hurricane had passed. Our community is still rebuilding from this and as a result, some of our students are only getting to participate in "team sports" as school. The tennis racquets and balls will allow our P.E. coach to teach the whole school how to play tennis and will allow more students to participate than ever. The batting tees will also help our coach with increasing the number of students that can practice batting at a time. Currently, we do not have enough tees and students can only play one at a time and must wait. The rest of the items will help prepare our students for our annual Field Day. Field Day consists of team activities where the classes in each grade level compete against each other. We complete relays using many different items and the students have a blast! This project will contribute to not only team sports daily, but our annual Field Day!
