My Students
Do you love Dr. Seuss books? I do and so do my preschool/playschool students! Sharing books with all the students in a prek-12 school gets very frustrating!
Our school is a prek-12 school with just over 100 students.
We live in a high poverty area with a lot of Native American students as well as some Hispanics. Our students struggle with self confidence and self worth issues. With all the budget cuts our school is facing it is difficult to get the materials we need to make learning fun.
My Project
I have always declared March as Dr. Seuss month. With my own set of books I will be able to use the books when I want to instead of when they are available. The books on tape will allow the students to listen to the cd and follow along. Giving them the sense of reading the book by themselves. This will help promote confidence in my students.
Rhythm, rhyme, and alliteration are a major part of reading.
If my preschoolers can rhyme before they start kindergarten they will be on the fast track to reading. Dr. Seuss books are a fun way to really get the students to understand rhythm and rhyme in reading.
