My first-grade students are full of energy with individual learning styles and needs. They are eager to learn about everything! We provide opportunities for them to learn from each other, to learn together, and to learn through experimenting and trying new things. Everyone at our school works together to support the growth of every child. We are especially focused on encouraging and increasing compassion and kindness throughout the campus. Even though our building is over 50 years old, our excitement about working with the students is always fresh and lively!
My Project
Six-year-olds have a lot of energy! They have a need to run and play, but it's time for school, so it's time to be indoors each day to practice reading, writing, and number skills.
The hokki stools allow students to move their bodies while they are accomplishing their school tasks and developing their academic skills.
While standard chairs can feel stiff and uncomfortable, hokki stools allow students to tip and wiggle safely and quietly while reading or writing. They allow just enough movement to relieve feelings of restlessness that can occur while sitting still for any length of time. In addition, sitting on the wobble stool can help to strengthen core muscle groups.
Adding these stools to our classroom will help fidgety students to feel more comfortable and to be able to accomplish the academic goals of first grade.
