We Just Want To Hear Our Music

My students need 2 iPods, an iPod record recorder, and a Bose Sound Dock rechargable battery to hear our music.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Swedberg's classroom raised $1,052

My Students

Music is an important part of any classroom. I use music as a learning tool in my classroom. I teach 500 Kindergarten through 5th grade students in Kansas. My students are all technology buffs so I try to find new and interesting ways to help my students learn using music and technology.

I want my students to be able to utilize an iPod listening center.

Students will listen to different styles and periods of music as well as listen to music stories and books. This center will be used on Music Madness Friday's all year long; we currently have 6 iPods, but need two additional iPods to accommodate the larger classrooms with 26 students. The record recorder will allow me to transfer records to MP3 files directly to the iPods. The Bose battery will be used for music performances where power is not available on our Bose Sound Dock for the iPods.

My Project

I will be using the iPods in place of a traditional cassette or CD listening center. I can easily record my own voice reading a story or have music for students at the listening center using the iPod. The iPod will facilitate a combination of essential musical behaviors such as listening and evaluating music performances in a variety of activities. Students will be encouraged to interpret stories in sound, a learning process that is increasingly regarded as essential to cognition in the arts. This project can easily be implemented because it focuses on musical elements and national music education standards. Specifically, standards: 6, 8, and 9. 6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music. 8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts. 9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.) Students in grades 2-5 will participate (approximately 300 students). Instruction will meet the needs and abilities of all students.

Your help will ensure that my students take an active role in the creation and exploration of music.

As students are listening and evaluating music, they will be gaining essential listening skills. The effect is an education that puts an emphasis on learning by doing. Student knowledge and learning in music and technology are enhanced as a result. This will help to create a community of life-long music makers.
