My Students
In the heart of New Jersey, our school has a diverse student population that draws from five feeder districts. Our students’ interests vary greatly due to variations within our environment. Popular hobbies include hunting and fishing and range from surfing and skating. There is a small indie music scene, as well as many popular cover bands that play up and down the shore area.
We have a wonderfully eclectic mix of students, from many diverse backgrounds.
What unites them all is their passion for learning music, approaching the subject from a youthful exuberance. My job is simple: to cultivate their motivation for learning.
My Project
With this unique opportunity, the level of fun my students already have in my classroom can be increased a hundredfold! Many people do not have a chance to ever see or play a harp up close, and with this donation, I can provide this rare experience for my students. In addition to learning the specific playing techniques required, we can also learn about the history of the instrument and how and when it is used throughout classical music history as well as modern indie pop music compositions. The authenticity of my instruction will be apparent when students have the chance to play the actual instrument we learn about in class.
