This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are some of the most hardworking students at our school. All of my students are special education students.
They are students with Autism, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Language Disabilities or Other Health Impairments.
These disabilities make learning more difficult for them. In addition, over 65% of my students are English Language Learners; many of these students are still learning how to speak English. Our school has the highest Hispanic population in the state. Our school also qualifies as a Title I school: over 85% of our students live in poverty and qualify for free/reduced-priced lunch. Despite all of these obstacles, these students are eager to come to school each day. They always try their best and never give up when they face hardships. The students at this school are really special, and their enthusiasm and willingness to learn make teaching them such a joy.
I also teach in the free afterschool program at our school. I teach two separate energetic and loving 4th grade classes. They love to do hands-on activities! We have started exploring coding and robotics and they love it.
My Project
My position was added to the school 5 years ago. Because of this, I am the only teacher in my building that did not have a Promethean Board. A Promethean Board is needed in today's ever-changing technological world. They allow my students to participate in educational games such as Kahoot, Multiplication Baseball, and Sight Word Smash. I attended a technology conference and I can also make my own games for whatever skill my students are working on. This helps keep student engagement and excitement up in my classroom. It will also allow me to portray our Class Craft Behavior chart as a visual reminder to those who need it.
By pure luck, I was able to purchase a used Promethean Board with my own money.
The projector I currently have is very old and projects lopsided. It does not fit the Promethean screen correctly. It emits a burning smell once I have used it for too long during the day. The games sometimes do not work as well since the projector projects lopsided. A new projector would really help my students! Thank you for always supporting my classroom.
