My Project
Unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters and pandemics have recently changed learning and the availability of community-based experiences, and employment prospects for students with unique challenges and abilities. Our students have experienced stress from these incidents first-hand, as well as sensed the tension brought about by financial and emotional impacts both at home and school. With the hurricane that impacted our area, students have dealt with loss and/or destruction of seemingly indestructible things that placed significant strain on their home lives as budgeting and financing have taken precedence when trying to repair homes. Life has simply changed and therefore we need to change too. Our students are in need of a laser cutter that will afford them an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in financial literacy while fostering creativity and budding free enterprise. Students with unique learning challenges and abilities are often limited when joining the workforce; however, by teaching students to develop untapped innovative and entrepreneurial potential, we can increase leisure and employment prospects whilst instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment in work and production. Learning opportunities like this can also help our students be better equipped to bounce back from employment or financial setbacks caused by similar misfortunes in future.
