This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Today a reader, tomorrow a leader." - Margaret Fuller. In my 5th grade classroom, I am working on instilling a love for reading in all of my students. To do this successfully, we need to expand our classroom library.
I teach 34 amazing 5th graders who come from very diverse backgrounds.
The majority of my students are bused to school from all areas of Los Angeles. Many of my students are English Language Learners. Despite the fact that some of my students are dealing with many of life's harsh realities, my students come to school eager to learn and work towards a better future.
My Project
I am requesting high-interest, age-appropriate book for our library. Many students, especially boys, complain they can't find books they want to read. With these new books, all of my students will find something they are interesting in reading. Also, I am requesting a rug so that my students can have a comfortable, clean place to sit and read. Finally, I am requesting 2 bean bags for students to use in the library while reading.
As a teacher, my main goal is to help my students be life-long learners.
They may not remember all the content we study in the future, but they will take their love for reading with them for the rest of their lives.
