This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year I am excited to teach in a 2nd-grade class where students are multilingual learners and English is not their first language. These students are developing a love for reading. At these early reading levels, I have a limited number of books that are of interest to my students. These books will encourage them to keep reading by developing a love for reading. It is my goal as their teacher to not only put books in their hands but have them love and be excited to read. Students at this early reading stage enjoy playing games and touching the sounds.
These students need a variety of materials and learning experiences in order to be successful.
It is a wonderful experience but also a challenging one. Many of my students are from low-income areas. They are not only learning to speak, read, write, calculate, and also do this in a new language. As a teacher, it is my job to ensure they are cared for, listened to, motivated, encouraged, empowered, safe, respected, and happy.
They are taught to work hard, believe in themselves, and accomplish anything they put their minds to. I try to create a classroom environment where there is a love for learning, the ability to ask questions, and the fostering of creativity. I am there to support them and create a love for learning.
