We Got The Beat - Coney Island Music Club

Help me give my students the ability to create crisp recordings, hear and work on editing their own creations individually and save for safekeeping as well as to share with the world.

My Students

Here in Coney Island, my students love music. From singing to rapping and banging out beats on their tables.

My students are eager to get their voices heard and they all have something worth saying.

In these years of development, my students are finding their voices and discovering their identity. They are used to recording their lives to share with others and look forward to having a lasting impact.

We are a title I middle school serving grades 6-8 where all students receive free lunch. Students are proud of the progress that they make daily in becoming better versions of themselves and look forward to contributing great things to society at large.

My Project

When the first note of your favorite song plays, your body has a reaction. It anticipates your happy place. There is pure joy in music. That is the joy we want to create here in Coney Island.

Once students have the chance to create music - expressing their own thoughts and feelings - they will truly know what it means to have a voice and use it to impact the world.

We are creating a My Voice music club here in Coney Island where students can use a professional microphone to record not only their raps, spoken word, beats, and songs but can also edit their creations without waiting for others with the use of individual headphones. With enough space to back up everyone's projects on the two external hard drives, students will be able to create to their heart's content.

This will be more than the creation and recording of audio. Students will have the opportunity to share their work online in our online magazine. Students can also conduct interviews related to music and the influence of music on their generation as well as past generations. Ultimately, students will begin to use their voice and see the impact they can have on the world around them.
