My students need a new reading area with Charcoal Rectangular Carpet and Heavy-Duty Book Center for our children when we move into a new center that has two classrooms to outfit.
Our children are truly our future. We live in a frontier community of 700 people. This community LOVES its children, we all find unity around these kids. And now to describe them...
Engaged, excited, participatory, helpful and primarily low-income, they are the best!
Our children strive to become well-educated and give back to the community. They have all seen a tractor but some have never seen a traffic light.
They have never had a pre-school of their own, just for them. They have persevered in less than ideal conditions and are resilient. They feel the cold classroom in the winter and swelter in the summer, all with a smile and joy in their heart to spend the day with friends.
They are not "state of the art" and were ecstatic to get a weather station, scales and cameras for introduction to technology. Conservation for them is saving the leftover food to feed the chickens, and using the ice that kept the milk cold for the garden on the playground.
What they love the most is that their teachers and community love them, that their "grammy" (the cook) cooks them 2 hot meals and a snack a day.
My Project
We get to move into our new early learning center. Our old classroom is in an unused wing of our grade school. The new school even has a kitchen that isn't in our classroom!
SMART has been launched at our school and we are in need of additional furnishings for that program as well as for our classroom.
We already have 8 readers that have signed up to read with us and we need an area, in class, for us to meet.
The floor in our new classroom is wood so we are asking for a couple comfy rugs for our children to sprawl on and our readers to save their knees on! A new bookshelf is needed, we received a new one for SMART but also need one for our classroom reading center.
