FULLY FUNDED! Ms. B.'s classroom raised $941

I love Morrill Middle School. It may not have the best test scores in the state or the county or even the district but it is my school. Many of the students come from unprivileged backgrounds and have little English language skills. They want to learn but need more than textbooks and worksheets. That is why I want to have a notebook computer for my classroom. Currently I have desktop that is set-up to run the Windows 98 program. It can connect to the Internet but it is unable to download videos, music or even play sound. Last year I was able to purchase an LCD projector for my classroom but I can not hook-up my desktop to the projector. I need to have a laptop to connect to my projector.
I teach world history. The curriculum would be greatly enhanced if I could use the many videos available on the Internet, music, photographs of artifacts and power point presentations, just to name a few. I was privileged to attend school in a wealthy district, the days my history teacher used technology in her classroom are the days I still remember a decade later. My high school friends still talk about their history teacher played Billy Joel’s "We Didn’t Start the Fire." The students crave technology in the classroom and they deserve it.
I also teach AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination). AVID takes middle of the road and often underrepresented students and gives them the skills to go to four-year colleges. It is a research based program and has a 25 year track record of success. The ability to use the laptop and project would allow me to help students not only learn how to use technology to their advantage but also help the students engage in the curriculum in their other classes.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope that you choose to support my students in helping them access technology and connect to history.
