Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students don’t communicate through speech, they communicate through visuals and gestures. I want to create a world of color not just black and white. The materials I have added are to help my students communicate and have a voice. As a special education teacher I create all of my students communication boards, adaptive books, visual schedules, first then charts etc. My school has a printer, but it’s only in black and white. My students would thrive more if they had there visuals in color. They’ll feel more excited to use a color communication board. That’s why I added a printer.
My students communicate differently.
My goal for this projects is to give my students a voice through color visuals. My students don’t answer questions verbally during a read aloud, so I create adaptive books using the book rings and Velcro so they can engage in a book. It takes time and effort to make the adaptive books, and it’s worth it when I see a student smile knowing they feel included. I strive for equity for my students and I create opportunities of communication.
