My students recently had a classroom election and voted to add new chapter books to our classroom library. They could choose to add new chapter books, indoor recess games, or a class fish and they picked books! Needless to say, I was thrilled. I want to be able to provide these books to my students!
My classroom is made up of 24 Third Graders.
They are eager learners who come from various backgrounds and require different instruction to meet their needs. They all have one thing in common ...they LOVE to have books read aloud to them! Our school is located in a suburban area with many students on free and reduced price lunches. We are also a "Leader in Me" school that empowers students to be leaders in the 21st century.
My Project
The books that I'm requesting through this project will enrich our classroom library. My students will be able to engage with them during independent reading time each day. My students chose all of these book titles including According to Humphrey, Geronimo Stilton, and Sports Illustrated, so I know they would love to have them added to our classroom library. Let's make it possible for them! Students who develop a love for reading early in life are not only more likely to graduate and move on to college, but they also have much better chances of becoming informed citizens.
