My Students
The school has a diverse population in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and learning needs. In my classroom we have students who are gifted, English Language Learners, and students with special needs.
My students are very enthusiastic about school and learning.
They love hearing stories read aloud and writing/drawing about their own lives. They also love singing and dancing. They are very kind and loving to each other. They are creative and often blow me away with their skills and ideas.
My Project
My school is very lacking in technology. I went to a Professional Development this summer where they stressed the importance of having a document camera in the classroom. They asked everyone that had one to raise their hand. I was one of only a few out of over 200 teacher that did not have one.
A document camera is an invaluable tool in both Language Arts and Mathematics instruction.
Not only can it be used to show students how to do their work independently, it can also be used to model reading strategies to the whole class using just one small book. It makes it possible for all the students, even the ones in the back row, to get an up close view of exactly what I am doing.
A document camera can also give the children an opportunity to share and celebrate their hard work with the class. With your donation, we will be able to project their work on the board for all to see. The children will be able to share positive feedback with each other that would be impossible with out this necessary technology. This will not only encourage the child that is showing their work, but it will also help the other students get ideas that they can put in their own work. This would also increase the level of engagement of the entire class.
