My Students

All things are possible to the willing and informed! I attended a workshop where the speaker used strategies from "Apraxia Uncovered and Related Speech Disorders." I want to help my students discover the world one sound and one word at a time.

I teach students with Exceptional Needs from three to five years old for a large urban school district in California.

My class is one of six Special Education categorical classes on a general education elementary school campus. I have a growing class with seven students in the morning and seven students I teach in an after school program once a week. Their disabilities include all levels of Autism Spectrum, Developmental Delays, Intellectual Impairment Other Health and Orthopedic Impairment, and Speech and Language Impairment. They need a progressive level of skilled learning and support to help them be successful in the classroom.

My Project

It is time for me to upgrade my Teaching Tools and work with cutting edge, tried and tested products such as the KIT: Apraxia Uncovered to use with students with Apraxia and related disorders. Rather than using trial and error approach in promoting natural speech, why not use something that has worked for so many. After systematically using this lesson and taking data among my students, the parents will benefit from successful strategies and while give them joy and hope they are seeking for in helping their child speak. A new CD of songs and mounting resources all come very handy in fulfilling an auditory and visually enriched environment.

By getting a well supported and widely used KIT that promotes strategies to help students with Apraxia and related speech disorders, we bring hope to these students who try so hard to communicate and get the sounds out.

Creating a stimulating and progressive environment can make a big difference in opening a world of possibilities to all my students.
