We Read to SUCCEED! As a reading teacher it is my goal to inspire a life long love for books and reading. I teach second grade reading in a departmentalized educational setting in a rural community of Louisiana.

The students I teach come from a vast area. Some have the support from families that are well educated while others are becoming the first in their family to become readers. I work with all students from the inclusive special needs children to the gifted. It is my goal to have the materials I need available to work with all the ability groups I am challenged with. Monies with-in the parish are limited to purchase the hands-on activities that would best benefit my students.

I run a dynamic center-based reading program. My students work in small groups, or with partners to reinforce and practice reading skills. To keep the students interested and motivated it is important to have a variety of activities that they can be exposed to. The new materials that I am requesting include activities for the classroom centers which focus on the readers' fluency and comprehension. These hands-on activities will enhance their reading skills which will not only improve their performance in reading but will carry over to other areas of learning.

If children can read they will succeed! You can help make it possible to create in my students that love for reading. By supporting my reading program with the needed materials you will help them to become better readers and students, along with instilling in them a life long interest and love for books and reading.
