This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I School in a low-income neighborhood. One of the awesome things about our school community is its diversity, with 20+ languages spoken at home. My students have their daily instruction in a 50/50 model of Dual Language Immersion as they learn in both English and Spanish. Their daily learning routine includes listening to native speakers in both languages as part of the language acquisition process.

Every single child in my classroom is willing to work hard and do whatever it takes to succeed and move up successfully to Middle School.

It is sometimes the lack of resources which limits the endless possibilities technology can offer to them.

Our school has made incredible progress in the past years and we are all working together to make every child successful because we firmly believe every child can learn.

My Project

In a Dual Immersion Program like ours, reading is one of the most powerful tools to learning a second language properly. Although we have a library in school, the number of books in Spanish is very limited. Having a small library in the classroom guarantees access to age-appropriate material, variety, and sharing common interests with peers.

Having books in Spanish will give our children an additional opportunity to read both at school as well as at home.

They all are willing to explore new worlds, and reading will get them closer to those worlds.

This also opens new opportunities for the teacher to create resources, tools, and activities that can empower children to read more and more every day.
