My students need an 80GB iPod and protective case so that they have access to our entire library of music.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Mason's classroom raised $405
This project is fully funded
I am an elementary school music teacher in a charter school serving a high-need community in New York.
I feel that as a music teacher, it is my responsibility to expose my students to high-quality, diverse music. Over the years, I have acquired a broad collection of recordings to share with my students.
I try to make my classroom student-centered, and I encourage students to develop musical tastes.
I have a lot of recorded music - and my students certainly have their favorite songs. When a student requests to hear a piece of music, or wants to engage in an activity based on music they have heard, I try to honor those wishes. The problem I face is that it isn't always easy to find the exact song a student is looking for.
If I had an iPod (with a protective case) in my classroom, I could load all of my music onto it. I could also load on music that I have in my personal collection at home to share with the students.
When a student requests a song, it would be at our fingertips. I wouldn't have to tell the student that I'll look for it and bring it to class next time.
My lessons would run so smoothly with the help of an iPod. Rather than switching from CD to CD, I would be able to make a playlist of all the music I need in a day, and have it sequenced and ready to go. Students would benefit from less wasted time, and more seamless instruction.
In addition to these benefits, students will also be exposed to this technology. The mp3 is now the primary form of music available, and many of my students do not have access to a mp3 player. Having an mp3 player such as an iPod in the classroom will allow students to see how music is downloaded, transferred from computer to mp3 player, and listened to.
With the generous donation of an iPod, my students will have greater access to the music they have studied. They will also have the satisfaction of being able to find their favorite songs and listening to them instantly. Last, they will gain technology skills by learning how to operate the device. Your help will make a big difference to all of my students for years to come.
Thank you for your consideration.
