Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach two groups of 6th grade Math and Social Studies students. Our school is located in a low-income/high-crime area. I see that my students are faced with several challenges, both inside and outside the classroom. However, I do all that I can to provide an environment that is consistent, fun and engaging so they can get the most out of their days in my room.
My students are creative, clever, and very unique.
They like to move and they love to receive lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households, some from non English-speaking families. They all receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
My Project
My students deserve the best and this includes clean clothes. Many of my students tell me that one of their chores at home is to do the wash. I want to be able to assist the families in my classroom by offering them laundry detergent in small, compact pods as well as dryer sheets that they are able to take home. By having these smalls items available to them, they are not only being able to help themselves, but help their families as well.
Students with clean clothes are confident and ready to take on the day.
I want to eliminate as much stress that is placed on my students as possible.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
