We Can Learn Math Skills Better with Hands on Materials

My students need various math supplies like puzzles, self-checking math warm-ups, magnetic supplies, telling time boards and counting money puzzles.

My Students

Have you ever tried to understand a concept, but just didn't have the supplies you need to investigate the idea further? Well imagine trying to teach a math skill and not having puzzles or supplies necessary to allow the lesson to stick with a youngster. Welcome to public education today.

I teach first grade to 30 inner city children.

Most of my first graders receive free or reduced fee lunch and breakfast at school. My first graders want to be successful, but face many challenges everyday due to their poverty. My students love to get new equipment in the classroom that helps enhance the curriculum. My wonderful students try hard to understand the material I am presenting, but, there just is not the proper supplies I need to teach the curriculum.

My Project

The puzzles and supplies I am requesting will help engage my first graders in the math curriculum. These materials will help me create math learning centers so as I am working with a small group, other students can be quietly working in math learning stations. These supplies will be used to help ensure children understand the material they need to be successful. Having more puzzles and time telling board will allow my students to experience success in the learning they are doing. A side benefit, they will have fun while learning. Having these math supplies will greatly help me and my students in the classroom. Also, once other teachers find out about these wonderful supplies, I am sure they will ask to use them in their classrooms. What a great way to help so many students.

I have been lucky enough to receive funding for several proposals.
