My Students
Working in a Title I school, my students come from low-income homes. They all receive free breakfast and lunch during the school year. Most of them are raised in single parent homes. My students are faced with many challenges at home and in school.
I want to make my classroom a safe haven for all my students, free of any limitations towards their growth.
I want an environment that nurtures my students' health, academic, social, and emotional development.
My Project
With all my students coming from low income families, they often come to school hungry. The food they get from the school is often the only food they get for the day. Our school offers students breakfast and lunch. However the families are asked to send in a healthy snack each day for their child to have during snack time. Unfortunately, most students come to school with no snack.
Having a refrigerator in my portable classroom, will give me the opportunity to store extra milk, fruit, and other foods and snacks to offer to the students during snack time, or if and when they are still hungry during the school day.
