This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are special in many ways. Our students try so hard every day to achieve their goals. They come to school excited to learn and thrive on a daily basis. The majority of our students come from low-income households and 97% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students do not have school supplies, computers at home, or an adult that is able to help them with homework.
My students are diverse learners and learn in different ways.
Many of my students need small groups with modified curriculum to learn. My students need hands-on activities to apply what is being taught to them.
My Project
My classroom is missing a piece of technology that would enable my students to create work they can see and use at school and at home, a working printer. Due to lack of funding, my students do not have the necessary textbooks and workbooks they need to be successful in all subject areas. As a result, I need to create the materials for homework. Not having a working printer or copier in the room makes this difficult, and leaves students without the appropriate materials and visual images they need to learn.
With a working printer, the students would be able to create images on the computer that reinforce the new vocabulary and concepts taught in class, and then print these images to use in our learning centers or at home for extra practice.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
